The Synthetic Anatomy Module at Kings has won an Education innovation Award from the Anatomical Society for an Integrated Innovative Anatomy Teaching Module. We are good – congratulations to Dr Mandeep Gill Sagoo (Team Lead, King's College London), Professor Richard Wingate, Professor Kawal Rhode and Dr Leigh Wilson. I’m deep into Chat GPT and its wondrous possibilities. Working with it to create work for Moon to Moon, in Lowestoft for the firstlight festival. Asked to develop a response to a poem written by George Szirtes It was an interesting exercise to submit the text into ChatGPT - I was fascinated that it deconstructed the poetry, taking out the poetic and making it fairly numbing. Meanwhile in my teaching capacity its assessment assessment assessment time – judging people is a thing. Onto screens - Paint – the discussion after when trying to work out why this doesn’t work is probably more interesting than the film itself – misjudged. John Wick 4 – 1000 more ways to creatively kill people. And then there was Succession – the gloriously devastating ending for all.

last night’s
poetry prom at Snape with John Hegley and Ian
McMillan was a nice evening of light entertainment – sounds like
a negative but nice is ok. It was all
very cosy and maybe asking for a little grit would be calling for the wrong
thing in the wrong place but I can’t help thinking that with 800 people in the
audience for poetry you couldn’t have introduced them to more voices – Byron Vincent
http://www.byronvincent.com/ is the lost child of Hegley and Richard Dedomenici http://dedomenici.com/ would connect with McMillan’s
acquired/stolen signage. Now that would be an interesting evening.
Anyway – I’ve started to look through
the folded paper archives in my studio with a view to starting work on Squeeze Fold Bend and Expand -
Structural Memory in Deformable Objects along with some light reading about rat
skeletons.
meanwhile on the watching front the beautifully
shot, colour saturated Utopia – the first series, although fractured with no explanation
of anything story wise was quite startling with utterly arresting imagery. The original
version of House of Cards is fascinating – cluttered with class war and leaden
80s-ness!

sculpturalhaiku

this week i’ve been reading Greard Smyth; The Fullness of Time; New and Selected Poems for the Kilkenny Arts Festival and developing an approach to making work - i’ve been really enjoying them and have decided to concentrate on his new work – not wanting to illustrate the words i’ve looking at a way of creating a body of work that in some way captures the individual poems and would work as a set – starting off as quick sketches the pieces are becoming a sort of sculptural haiku - dense and loaded with meaning
tomorrow i'm giving a presentation on powerpoint using powerpoint for year 1 students on the textile course at nuca - this morning i'm draw to the fact that Nelson Mandela did not use powerpoint to inspire a nation but they have to give to a presentation about their work next week and powerpoint will service the occasion!
meanwhile the book show at studio 75 – prosperos books has been and gone – check here to see images - http://blog.situ.org.uk/2011/04/29/prosperos-library-preview/
