walkingandwalkingandwalking

5 days walking part of the Cami de Ronda from Lloret de Mar to Llafranc, then into Palafrugell to get the bus to the airport. This part of the path mostly follows the coast. You find yourself walking through endless deserted small coves, into and out of working towns with one whole day in the mountains and woods. The beaches are tremendous - quiet, wild and empty - just left alone - if another person was there, it was a rare occurrence. Great food - we were in the patatas bravas, fried fish and arroz negro part of the world. It was difficult to eat badly. Warm air, clear blue sea and sky, beaming sun, stunning natural landscapes, interspersed with some amazing man-made sights, the modern cemetery at Lloret de Mar and the art nouveau hotel Diana in Tossa del Mar were particularly stunning. The latest show at The Print Room in Bruisyard has some excellent and beautiful work by Jonathan Keep. The 3D printed pots are exceptional, the mesmerizing forms enhanced by the stunning surfaces.

bindingpuffinternal

Printing again - this time it's all about lines rather than spaces - continued work with the tessellated images - printing with puff binder is very fulfilling, it's printed on a range of surfaces and the effect is mesmerizing, especially in the heat press as the binder 'grows' - the work is all about the haptic - how the work feels in the hand is key,  it's all about the touch and weight. Temperature has become a thing, especially as the material retains heat in the hand. can't help but think about body, brain and images of internal organs.

meanwhile onto looking at screens - isthisit has a new exhibition in its online exhibition space - https://www.isthisitisthisit.com/data-fatigue there are some beautifully odd and wonderfully thoughtful pieces within the show - I recommend the work by Jonathan Monaghan - the imagery is quite stunning https://www.isthisitisthisit.com/data-fatigue-4  what a carve up - an interpretation of Jonathan Coe's wonderful book - an interesting exercise from the New Wolsey in Ipswich. About Endlessness - the new film by Roy Andersson is deeply disturbing in so many ways - the tableau's are the usual tonal beige and the content is hyper banal. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6817944/?ref_=nm_flmg_dr_1 Summer of 85 - just so French.

printingourworld

Working on some prints - using puff binder on polyester to focus on touch. It was interesting to see how cleaning the table presented some interesting images - layers accentuating ideas of contact. An extraordinary short video - Poem by Zoe Leonard - Performed by Mykki Blanco - I want a dyke for a president - a call to see all lives represented by those who represent us - https://vimeo.com/185375525?fbclid=IwAR2L8hHj8xpvi8-LnqIq86_T0hTr9KVB3S1DR_JJyLIJR7X5PRPp4LTAcvM Working on Raced through Roadkill in one sitting - excellent script but limited development of characterisation. Queen's Gambit was very stylish and made the chess board appear on our table. About Endlessness - the new film by Roy Andersson is disturbing in so many ways - the tableau's are the usual tonal beige but the content is hyper banal. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6817944/?ref_=nm_flmg_dr_1

refoldingdynamite

the print I had created for the 100 sq feet exhibition for the Halesworth Gallery - 'tanguramu no ken' (Japanese for tangram sword)
http://www.paulcope.com/100_Sq_Ft/artists/artists.html had to be refolded - I hadn't made it small enough to fit it into the proposed box. I've decided that I would like the work displayed folded and sealed so that unless you have a copy you will not know what it looks like. The fixed work becomes a sort of puzzle and references the works starting point - the tangram. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tangram

meanwhile I would recommend the 'wacky' comedy series that is Lady Dynamite https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Dynamite it's a laugh out loud oddly beautiful and bizarre series of interactions that feels at any point could go in any direction but then there is the truly dull Independence Day: Resurgence - oh dear not even fun in an ironic way apart from Jeff Goldblum who does appear to be trying.

transparentsomething

agreed to be part of "INCULCATE" a printmaking show at Camberwell - it's made up of members of staff and students as a way of celebrating the range of skills within the institution - the work explores the idea of 'the hint of a thing', 'an idea that was sort of there', 'the possibility of potential'. The piece is constructed from a range of materials and uses their physical qualities and layering to accentuate these ideas. It employs a printed image of knotted string with all the associated symbolism alongside the string itself which is held within the semi-transparent container.
