patternuniquepattern

Went to see the show at artstation, some interesting work and William Cobbing’s performance was very sweet, especially when working with the small children. A week of working on a new body of work – reflecting and building on earlier crystallography pieces the prints were generated using lazer cut paper and card. They started out as angular tessellations but were then manipulated to create a softer feel with curved edges. Although part of a series each piece is unique. The next stage will be to introduce some structure through folding, although some work as prints in themselves. I have a flag in the show at east coast pavilion at Lowestoft. Onto screens – want to feel like you have been blasted watch Nope, what did I just watch? - truly extraordinary. Top Gun Maverick does what it says on the tin if it had a tin.

teachingroundupandfolding

Planning towards the final show for OCA is well underway - the exhibition will be an eclectic affair which is what you would expect from an exhibition of international students from all over the world.  checkout the work at https://www.instagram.com/duodecimalart/  Year 3 at NUA is culminating in a few weeks - as ever it's that time in the education cycle where we have a graded engagement with the final process. The range is from people who have planned and are working through their lists through to those looking for a time machine to try and solve their issues. Camberwell starts again in a couple of weeks, it will be interesting to see what the students have been working on over the Easter 10 weeks of non teaching.  Meanwhile the work for the exhibition in Wyoming has been sent off. I am particularly excited by the editioning process and final outcome of one of the handheld pieces that started life with nanotech in Cambridge.

thinkingfoldingfilm

looking at the idea of editioning some of the folded folding modular structures so focusing on methodology and materials to make some finished pieces – but also there is still the idea of making objects with a view to filming them eventually. Some more versions -

also a show coming up that will be good - http://thisisbecausetheinternet.tumblr.com/about I shall of been and returned from New York by then – the itinerary of which is getting very full with the New Witney to check out, the Serra at David Zwirner, the New museum of Modern Art has the triennial, Bjork and Yoko Ono at MOMA. I’ve never been to the American Folk Art Museum so looking forward to that.

gettingdowntoeditioning

getting down to editioning the book for The Sunderland Book Project http://theresaeaston.wordpress.com/the-sunderland-book-project/ - the starting point for the book is an extract of a text from St Bede, it’s become an edition of 10 with folding and digital printing alongside handwriting that combines the idea of the scribe, the next stage after life and the labyrinth of thinking involved in understanding. meanwhile NUCA has seen me working on the MA design course running a session on PechaKucha – http://www.pecha-kucha.org/ a wonderful, yet intense presentation tool where you show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. the images forward automatically and you talk along to the images - something that gets rid of waffle and down to the facts – a format that might be good to adopt for the BA students, the rest of the teaching has been a mixture of individual tutorials, briefings and support for both the wallpaper society and the final show. its rare that i get disturbed by images but i came across a book titled the perfect medium – photography and the occult, the chapter on ectoplasm – where cloth is used to illustrate the spirit is obviously not true but the photographs very existence, the paucity of the imagery and the belief in them combines to make an oddness.
