Printing again - this time it's all about lines rather than spaces - continued work with the tessellated images - printing with puff binder is very fulfilling, it's printed on a range of surfaces and the effect is mesmerizing, especially in the heat press as the binder 'grows' - the work is all about the haptic - how the work feels in the hand is key,  it's all about the touch and weight. Temperature has become a thing, especially as the material retains heat in the hand. can't help but think about body, brain and images of internal organs.

after last weekend's excellent Sound City in Ipswich this weekend was The Suffolk short film Festival at Leiston Cinema - (built in 1914) https://www.suffolkshorts.co.uk/. The program was a little bleak - death, Alzheimer's, bullying and more death but/and/so Wonderland, seven and SYLVIA https://sylviafilm.com/ are worth seeking out. This week is busy - Ron Athey at Norwich Art Centre https://norwichartscentre.co.uk/events/acephalous-monster/ Premiere at the Dance House in Ipswich https://www.danceeast.co.uk/watch-a-performance/ and hopefully checking out some shows in London 180 The Strand is on the list along with Mark Lecky's bridge at the Tate. Succession finale was dark with all the players demonstrating why they are so twisted but the final scene was where we were always going so it felt weirdly cathartic. Deep into the brutal Unbelievable - episode one is hard to watch but by three you are into buddy cop dynamics which is an easier territory. Meanwhile working on more folding and articulated structures. Revisiting some of the work created with the robotics department at Kings for Parallel Practices. whereisthework?

I've been working with illustrator creating new ideas around the modular and of course the fold and then outputting the structures using the laser cutter. As part of my ongoing investigation of form and structure I've been introducing tessellation to the arsenal of potential creative tools. The Penrose tessellation offers beautiful results which are both familiar and otherworldly and I've been astounded with how wonderful and seemingly effortless the laser cutter ‘knocks out’ interesting artefacts filled with many possibilities. Maybe the future is already here.

I was reminded of a conversation with Roger Ackling and his musing on where the work was. He asked that maybe he had missed the point all these years whilst making his art. Roger made otherworldly objects by harnessing the power of the sun through a lens. He asked that maybe the smoke was the work – beautifully poetic and at the same time laterally pragmatic. The work he made really was more than just burning lines! As I worked with the laser cutter I deliberated on what was happening and began to ask myself if maybe the space between where the work appeared to be..................was the work.
