I have been developing imagery from ideas first started when I encountered crystallography. The shapes are derived from exploring Penrose tessellation and manipulated in illustrator. Lazer cut forms are then used as a masking device which offers unlimited possibilities, the choice after making is where the work happens, as layers are added the work becomes more complex, especially after cutting into the prints and juxtaposing the many layers. The spray-painted imagery seems to blur and move in and out of focus. The images are a series of prints, and the film is made from pages of a bookwork. Onto screens - The infernal machine – full of slowly dawning ah-ha revelatory moments. Inheritance – twisted and dark. Athena – lots of shouting and running and explosions. Bullet Train – unsure if it was intentionally knowing or if it was delusional, the former would make it hilarious….4 episodes into the frantic and fast paced The Bear and yet to breath out.

Went to see the show at artstation, some interesting work and William Cobbing’s performance was very sweet, especially when working with the small children. A week of working on a new body of work – reflecting and building on earlier crystallography pieces the prints were generated using lazer cut paper and card. They started out as angular tessellations but were then manipulated to create a softer feel with curved edges. Although part of a series each piece is unique. The next stage will be to introduce some structure through folding, although some work as prints in themselves. I have a flag in the show at east coast pavilion at Lowestoft. Onto screens – want to feel like you have been blasted watch Nope, what did I just watch? - truly extraordinary. Top Gun Maverick does what it says on the tin if it had a tin.

the shadow and the void - continuing the work on the pieces for Goldlay in Chelmsford. The shadows and their relationship to the objects are really dynamic and have emerged even better than I had hoped.

After much learning with illustrator the lazer cutting tests for the Goldlay Square commission look good - really pleased with how the references have become heightened - the  images of books opening and cell structures 'pop' out of the design. Also when you have a physical thing rather than the digital you really get a sense of the scale. Other physical aspects of its materiality become obvious such as how the design creates excellent shadows.

Spent the day focused on building Penrose tessellations for the Goldlay Square commission. Working with illustrator to create vector drawings that combine the history of the site - the cell like structures that come from the seed/growth/allotment reference and the open book structures that are derived from the book repository and printers. I really like that the more one looks at the design one can see patterns within patterns and the negative spaces provide a place of play.
