A really good day of teaching and learning at Kings – the first day of synthetic anatomy was high octane focused teaching. The team’s learning over the years has been honed and rather than every year throwing everything that has been learnt up in the air, as a team we are focused, we learn and grow, this enables us to deliver a positive experience to the students. Went to see Gecko’s the wedding at Sadlers Wells East – a stunningly tight show with some really fabulous ‘theatre moments’ highlights include – a man with ‘floating objects’ that he attempts to grasp, the men in the box, and the appearing monument as table were great stage craft moments, and the lighting as ever with Gecko was moodily appropriate. Meanwhile Fadoul was on the turntable at a friend’s house, the album Al Zman Saib is fabulous. Onto screens Empire with David Olusoga is another exercise in lifting the lid over the lies I was told as a child as to the greatness and fairness of Great Britian.

Another weekend of the glorious Pulse Festival at the Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich - subjects include genocide, death, EU referendum, evil, personal testimony, war, stars, the universe, aliens, space flight, men, complex astrophysics and sex.

Highlights include the wonderful Ursula Martinez creating a wall, an actual real wall of breeze blocks between her and the audience whilst talking sex racism sex likes and dislikes sex and then sex before taking all her clothes off and walking out into the street followed by camera. She is a must see - one minute you are laughing uncontrollably - the next cringing at the silence created by the thing that she has actually said - yes she really did just say that. http://ursulamartinez.com/index.html You can't not be overtaken by Gecko - their fast paced, highly stage crafted dance washes over, then it slows, stills to a stop forming moments where tableau's that seem timeless are allowed to form and swirl around in one's head. http://geckotheatre.com/  already looking forward to next year's Pulse.

Went to see Gecko’s latest piece at the dance house in Ipswich – Institute - http://www.geckotheatre.com/project/institute/ - technically it was wondrous with some very clever set pieces, especially when a man rewinds his past to his childhood in about 2 minutes whilst wearing his own lighting but it was a little lacking in its ability to create an emotional response, to really connect with the characters  – maybe it was the woman guffawing inappropriately sitting in front of me – who knows, but it’s still worth seeing. Turn the page book fair in Norwich yet again showed a great range of book making. There was some good student work on display, I look forward to discussing their experiences at the next seminar. http://turnthepage.org.uk/
