A teaching day in London – an excellent group crit at Camberwell –
some exciting starting points for new work which made me want to go home and fold paper! – the bookmare at Camberwell space looks good with an interesting theme - against nature, curated by Finlay Taylor with help from friends! - a nice publication accompanies the show
http://finlaytaylor.info/news.html then off to Matisse at the Tate –
it was a joy to see Jazz, possibly one of the earliest pieces of book art as the genre
developed from the livre d’artist. Everybody talks about the physical qualities
of the pieces in the show and it is true their materiality is very present especially the earlier pieces when he was
using the cut outs as a way of exploring the many possibilities of composition –
worth a visit but be prepared for the gawping crowds. http://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-modern/exhibition/henri-matisse-cut-outs
